In this bit from 2004, Jojo sends Jagger out in the streets to collect money for Special Olympics
Who's that in the megaphone in the background?
SPEAKER_02Uh that's Officer Tim Dixon on the roof.
SPEAKER_01Is he yelling at you?
SPEAKER_02Um, no, he's trying to uh get donation. He's telling people what a good cause Special Olympics is and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_01Well, hey, I've got an idea. He's got a megaphone and I have a 100,000 watt transmitter. Why don't we talk about it here and more people will hear will hear it.
SPEAKER_02That is what we're doing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Because right now I am literally on a street corner right now, not like college Jamie style or anything. I'm actually just collecting donations. Yeah. And I've got a big bullseye on my stomach and a and a uh a large bucket underneath where you can just come by right now and just throw money at me, change dollar bills, shank it right off him. He's the back.
SPEAKER_01You're the rim.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And just bounce it off the belly right into the bucket. And it's all for good cause of raising money for Special Olympics. We're out here uh until nine o'clock. I am, but the police department's gonna be actually out here until 6 p.m. today. So if you can't get by here right now, don't cry, don't, you know, pout about it. Just come by after work.
SPEAKER_01Well, I want to raise $7,000 in the next 45 minutes.
SPEAKER_02So Yeah, I do too. I mean, you you have a small window of opportunity to come by and throw things at me.
SPEAKER_01Come on, Greenville, let's set a record for the most money raised in the shortest period of time. Let's kick it up. Let's be known as the city that raised $7,000 for the athletes in the Special Olympics in 45 minutes. And go. Are you the 10th Street and Charles Boulevard shake the bucket for me?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, how's that bucket doing?
SPEAKER_02Uh, let's see. I've got some twenties in here, I've got a check. I've got some ones, I've got lots of change.
SPEAKER_01That's money, baby. It's going good.
SPEAKER_02So it is going good. People are loving the opportunity, but they don't actually have to get out. If they're in their way to work and they're in a hurry, they can just uh just stop right in the middle of the highway and I'll run right out to them. No, no, uh, no harm, no foul.
SPEAKER_01Any strange objects thrown at you?
SPEAKER_02Not yet. It's pretty pretty much just change and dollar bills.
SPEAKER_01You can actually like take a 20, put some quarters in it to weigh it down, crumple it up into a ball, and throw that at Jagger.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's fine.
SPEAKER_00Make sure you crumple it up so that it'll make it all the way over there.
SPEAKER_01Or write out a check for $7,000. Crumple it up, throw it out the window. Make sure it's valid, of course. The Greenville Police Department is there. Honk your horn, throw all the money you can out your car. And Jagger just got hit. Are you alive?
SPEAKER_02Hey, are you okay?
SPEAKER_01Oh, we got a thrower. We got a thrower. We got a live one here.
SPEAKER_02There you go. Oh, yeah. Thank you. Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01What is that right in your face?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was like quarters and dimes.
SPEAKER_01Great. Bounce it off his cheek.
SPEAKER_00How close are you actually to the traffic?
SPEAKER_02Uh, I actually walk out into the road to collect money.
SPEAKER_01So you actually will go out into the road and not let the cars get to where they want to go until they make a donation.
SPEAKER_00Risking your life this morning.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely. If they're on the other side of the highway and they don't want to get out and they don't want to pull in and they just want to wave a dollar, I'll come get it.
SPEAKER_00Are you by a stoplight?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm right on the corner.
SPEAKER_01Okay, when the light turns red, I want you to walk from car to car with the bucket. Uh, right now? Is the light red? Yeah. Yeah. Every time the light turns red, walk from car to car and say, help the Special Olympics. Oh, it's green now! It's green! Oh, yeah, not a good time. Go back to the sidewalk. Go back to the sidewalk. Go back to the sidewalk. We're playing red light, green light here.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_01For real. You almost got killed. Sorry about that, man.
SPEAKER_02There's a truckload of uh construction workers laughing at me now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, want to definitely make sure the light has just turned red. Oh, okay. And let's do this. Let's let's send you live out into the traffic when the lights because they do that all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you see people out all the time, just coming up to your car. And those are just bums. You know, you roll the window up, lock the door. Back in the way.
SPEAKER_01I think I see yellow. I think I see yellow. Here I go. Okay, go. All right, here I go. All right, now he's now going.
SPEAKER_02Special Olympics!
SPEAKER_01There we go.
SPEAKER_02Special Olympics! Oh yeah! Nice! $20. Thank you so much. Good job, thank you. You see? Special Olympics! I have no idea, sir. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01He's got people asking him directions. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02All right, thank you. Special Olympics. Anyone? Special Olympics. Car to car, Narc, you know. I am.
SPEAKER_01There you go.
SPEAKER_02Oh, here we go. Here we go. Thank you so much. Thank you very much. Oh back!
SPEAKER_00Go go go like Frogger.
SPEAKER_02That was close.
SPEAKER_01I was zoomed right by me. They didn't even care. We're doing special Olympics Frogger on the show if you're just joining us.
SPEAKER_02Man, that dude was tough. He just kept on trucking.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna see the light turn red one more time.
SPEAKER_02Alright. It's a pretty quick light, so it shouldn't have to wait too long here.
SPEAKER_01Again, if you're pulling up at this light on Charles Boulevard and 10th Street, that's Jagger with the bullseye on his stomach.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, don't be afraid if I come up to your car and mace me or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01You know, those pennies that get all sticky because you put the the soft drink on top of them. That's give those out too. Sure. Alright, here we go, here we go, here we go. Red light. Red light, go.
SPEAKER_02Special Olympics. Anything? Special Olympics? Alright, he's digging deep.
SPEAKER_01He's digging.
SPEAKER_02Alright, alright. Thank you so much. Thank you. Oh, I'm in between cars. Special Olympics.
SPEAKER_01See, this is this is called being proactive.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much.
SPEAKER_01Take the donations from people.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_01Special Olympics. I mean, they're on the radio. They don't want to not give.
SPEAKER_02Special Olympics? Thank you so much. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01This is awesome.
SPEAKER_02Oh, here we go. Oh, she's emptying the whole ashtrace. Thank you so much. That's what you have. Empty your ashtrace out. Oh, I'm right in the middle track. Green line, run! Green line, run, run, run! No, thank you. They're still giving those, so I'm staying. I don't care. I'll stand on the yellow line. Thank you. Oh my god. Thank you guys. Oh man. I was like right on the yellow line and both lights turned green.
